Spark Arrestor
-
Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas that can cause loss of consciousness or death in a very short time.
-
Wear eye protection and leather work gloves.
-
Do not perform clean-out immediately after the engine has been run, as the exhaust system becomes very hot. Serious burns could result from contact with the exhaust components. Allow components to cool sufficiently before proceeding.
Never operate without the spark arrestor
Periodically clean the spark arrestor to remove accumulated carbon.
-
Place the transmission in PARK.
-
Remove the arrestor retaining bolt and nut.
-
Remove the arrestor from the end of the muffler.
-
Use non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen. A synthetic brush may melt if the components are warm. If necessary, blow debris from the screen with compressed air.
-
Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace a worn or damaged screen.
-
Reinstall the arrestor.
-
Torque the bolt to specification.
