Oil and Oil Filter Change

IMPORTANT
Always change the oil filter whenever changing oil.

See the Lubrication Guide section for fluid recommendations and capacities. Always change the oil and oil filter at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on Maintenance Intervals. Always change the oil filter whenever changing oil.

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface.

  2. Put the transmission in PARK (P) and lock the parking brake.

  3. Start the engine. Allow it to warm up at idle for two to three minutes.

  4. Stop the engine.

  5. Clean the area around the drain plug 1.

  6. Place a drain pan under the crankcase.

  7. Remove the drain plug 1 and washer. Allow the oil to drain completely.

    CAUTION
    Hot oil can cause burns to skin. Do not allow hot oil to contact skin.

  8. Install a new sealing washer on the drain plug. The sealing surfaces on drain plug and crankcase should be clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches.

  9. Reinstall the drain plug. Torque to specification.

    12 ft-lbs (16 N·m)

  10. Place an oil drain pan and shop towels beneath the oil filter.

  11. Using an oil filter wrench (available from your POLARIS dealer), turn the filter counter-clockwise to remove it.

  12. Using a clean dry cloth, clean the filter sealing surface on the crankcase.

  13. Lubricate the o-ring on the new filter with a film of fresh engine oil. Check to make sure the o-ring is in good condition.

  14. Install the new filter and rotate it clockwise by hand until the filter gasket contacts the sealing surface, then turn it an additional 3/4 turn.

  15. Remove the engine access panel on the right side of the vehicle.

  16. Remove the dipstick. Add the Polaris recommended lubricant as necessary to bring the oil level within the SAFE range on the dipstick. DO NOT overfill.

    Capacity:

    2 qt (1.9 l)

  17. Reinstall the dipstick.

  18. Start the engine. Allow it to idle for one to two minutes.

  19. Stop the engine and check for leaks.

  20. Check the oil level. Add engine oil as needed to bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick.

  21. Dispose of used filter and oil properly.
