Engine Oil Level
With the semi-dry sump lubrication system, the engine oil level on the dipstick will fluctuate, depending on the motorcycle’s position and engine temperature when checked. To ensure a proper reading of the engine oil level, follow all inspection procedures closely.
Always check the oil after running a cold engine at idle for 30 seconds. The oil fill/dipstick is located on the left side of the motorcycle. Always use the recommended oil. See Engine Oil Recommendation.
-
Position the motorcycle on level ground in the fully upright and centered position.
-
Start the engine (from cold) and allow it to idle for 30 seconds. Stop the engine.
-
Remove the dipstick 1 and wipe it clean.
-
Thread the dipstick until fully seated.
-
Remove the dipstick and view the oil level.
NOTICEDo not overfill. Overfilling can result in loss of engine performance and an oil-saturated air filter. Use a suction device to remove excess oil if overfilled. -
Add the recommended oil as needed to bring the level within the safe operating range (anywhere between the two marks on the dipstick). If the oil level on the dipstick is anywhere in the safe range, do not add oil. Oil should be added only if the proper oil check procedure is followed and the level is below safe mark.
NOTICEOil should be added only if the proper oil check procedure is followed and the level is below the safe mark.NOTICEThe approximate volume between the FULL 2 and ADD 3 marks on the dipstick is 0.5 qt (0.47 l). -
Reinstall the dipstick securely.
-
Repeat steps 3–7 to ensure the level is within the safe operating range.
