Rear Gearcase Fluid

Always check and change the demand drive fluid at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart.

Use the recommended fluid. Use of other fluids may result in improper operation of components. Maintain the fluid level at the bottom of the fill hole threads. The fill plug is located on the back side of the rear gearcase. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the rear gearcase.

Fluid Check

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. Put the transmission in PARK (P) and lock the temporary brake lock.

  2. Remove the fill plug 1. Check the fluid level.

  3. Add the recommended fluid as needed to bring the level to the bottom of the fill hole threads.

  4. Reinstall the fill plug. Torque to specification.

TORQUE

Fill Plug:

12 ft-lbs (16 N·m)

Fluid Change

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. Put the transmission in PARK (P) and lock the temporary brake lock.

  2. Remove the fill plug.

  3. Place a drain pan under the rear gearcase. Remove the drain plug 2 (the drain plug is accessible through the skid plate). Allow the fluid to drain completely.

  4. Clean and reinstall the drain plug. Torque to specification.

    TORQUE

    Drain Plug:

    12 ft-lbs (16 N·m)

  5. Add the proper amount of the recommended fluid. Ensure the oil reaches the bottom of the fill hole threads.

  6. Reinstall the fill plug. Torque to specification.

  7. Check for leaks. Dispose of used fluid properly.
