Spark Arrestor
Failure to heed the following warnings while servicing the spark arrestor could result in serious injury or death.
-
Do not perform service on the spark arrestor while the system is hot. Allow components to cool sufficiently before proceeding.
-
Wear eye protection and gloves.
-
Never operate without the spark arrestor.
-
Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas.
To remove accumulated carbon, clean the spark arrestor at the intervals recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on Maintenance Intervals.
-
Remove the retaining screws 1, washers 2, and remove the arrestor 3 from the end of the silencer 5.
-
Use a non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen 4. A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm.
-
Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace if required.
-
Reinstall the arrestor and torque the fasteners to specification.
