Engine Break-In
The break-in period for your new snowmobile is defined as the first ten hours of operation, or the time it takes to use the first two tanks full of gasoline. No single action on your part is as important as a proper break-in period. Careful treatment of a new engine will result in more efficient performance and longer life for the engine.
-
Fill the fuel tank with gasoline.
-
Check the oil level. See Oil Level.
-
Drive slowly at first. Select an area that's open and will allow room to familiarize yourself with vehicle operation and handling.
-
Vary the throttle positions. Do not operate at sustained idle.
-
Perform regular checks on fluid levels, controls and areas outlined on the daily pre-ride inspection checklist. See Pre-Ride Check and Pre-Ride Check.
-
Change the oil after the first 20 hours of operation.
