Battery Installation
Using a new battery that has not been fully charged can damage the battery and result in a shorter life. It can also hinder vehicle performance. Follow the battery charging instructions in the Battery Maintenance and Charging section before installing the battery.

Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

Reinstall the battery in the battery holder and the vent tube, if equipped.

Secure the battery hold-down bracket and fasteners until fully seated.

Connect and tighten the red (positive) cable first.

Connect and tighten the black (negative) cable last.

Coat the terminals with dielectric grease or petroleum jelly.

Verify that cables are properly routed.
