Spark Arrester
Improper service of the spark arrester could result in serious injury or death.
-
Never operate the vehicle without the spark arrester.
-
Do not perform service on the spark arrester while the system is hot. Exhaust system temperatures can reach extreme temperatures. Allow components to cool sufficiently before proceeding.
-
Wear eye protection and gloves while servicing.
Periodically clean the spark arrester to remove accumulated carbon. A plugged spark arrester will affect engine performance. Clean daily when driving in mud and water. Replace a cracked or damaged arrester before operating.
To service spark arrester:
-
Turn off engine and allow exhaust system to cool.
-
Remove the arrester retaining bolt 1.
-
Use a non-synthetic brush to clean the arrester screen. A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm. If necessary, blow debris from the screen with compressed air.
-
Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace a worn or damaged screen.
-
Reinstall the arrester. Torque bolt to specification.
