Starting the Engine
NEVER use an engine starting aid such as ether. Engine damage will result.
The ignition system is marked by the OFF/ Battery Isolator Function 1, LIGHTS ON 2, POSITION LIGHTS ON 3, and START 4 symbols.
Before operating this vehicle in cold weather, review the cold weather operation information on Cold Weather Operation. Always wait for the glow plug indicator light to turn off before cranking the engine.

Always start the engine outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Sit in the driver's seat and fasten the seat belt. Secure the cab nets.

Place the transmission in PARK.

Apply the brakes. Do not press the throttle pedal while starting the engine.

Turn the ignition switch to the LIGHTS ON position and wait for the glow plug indicator light to turn off.

Turn the ignition key to the START position. Engage the starter for a maximum of five seconds. Release the key when the engine starts. Turn the key to either LIGHTS ON or POSITION LIGHTS ON.

If the engine does not start within five seconds, return the ignition switch to the OFF position and wait five seconds. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the engine starts.
