Battery Removal

WARNING
Improperly connecting or disconnecting battery cables can result in an explosion and cause serious injury or death. When removing the battery, always disconnect the negative (black) cable first. When reinstalling the battery, always connect the negative (black) cable last.
  1. Remove the seat. See Seat Removal.
  2. Remove the Wireless Control Module (WCM) 1 by disconnecting its electrical connector 2 and removing it from the upper battery tray.

  3. Remove the antenna 3 by disconnecting its electrical connector 4 and removing it from the upper battery tray.

  4. Disconnect the wiring harness from the upper battery tray by removing it from the two retention areas and move it off to the left side of the bike.

  5. Remove the negative (-) battery cable 5 from the battery terminal. Position the cable well clear of the terminal.

    Tool: 10 mm wrench

  6. Remove the rubber strap 6 from the battery cover by pulling up on the strap, then to the rear of the bike.

  7. Lift the rear of the upper battery tray upward and pull it toward the rear of the unit to remove.

  8. Disconnect the positive (+) battery cable 7 and remove the cable from the terminal. Position the cable well clear of the terminal.

  9. Remove the fastener 8 securing the battery strap 9.

  10. Remove the battery strap by moving the front of the strap forward out of the retention feature of the battery box.

  11. Lift the battery from the battery box.
