Rear Gearcase Fluid Check / Change

The rear gearcase fluid should be checked and changed in accordance with the Polaris Maintenance Schedule. See the Lubrication Guide section for fluid recommendations, capacities, and plug torques.

Use the recommended fluid. Use of other fluids may result in improper operation of components. Maintain the fluid level at the bottom of the fill hole threads. The fill plug is located on the back side of the rear gearcase. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the rear gearcase and can be accessed through the bottom of the chassis.

FLUID CHECK

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. Put the transmission in PARK (P) and lock the temporary brake lock.

  2. Remove the fill plug 1. Check the fluid level.

  3. Add the recommended fluid as needed to bring the level to the bottom of the fill hole threads.

  4. Reinstall the fill plug. Torque to specification.

TORQUE

Rear Gearcase Fill Plug:

12 ft-lbs (16 N·m)

FLUID CHANGE

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. Put the transmission in PARK (P) and lock the temporary brake lock.

  2. Remove the fill plug.

  3. Place a drain pan under the rear gearcase. Remove the drain plug 2 (the drain plug is accessible through the bottom of the chassis). Allow the fluid to drain completely.

  4. Clean and reinstall the drain plug. Torque to specification.

    TORQUE

    Rear Gearcase Drain Plug:

    12 ft-lbs (16 N·m)

  5. Add the proper amount of the recommended fluid. The fluid level should reach the bottom of the fill hole threads.

    CAPACITY

    Recommended Lubricant:

    Polaris Angle Drive Fluid

    Capacity:

    5 oz (150 ml)

  6. Reinstall the fill plug. Torque to specification.

  7. Check for leaks. Dispose of used fluid properly.
