Engine Oil and Filter Change

The engine oil and filter should be changed in accordance with the Polaris Maintenance Schedule. Always change the oil filter when you change the engine oil.

NOTICE

Be prepared to collect the fluid with a container before you open any compartment or disassemble any component that contains fluid.

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface.

  2. Put the transmission in PARK (P).

  3. Start the engine. Allow it to idle for two or three minutes. Then stop the engine.

  1. Remove the T40 Torx-headed screws 1 and oil filter plate 2 from the frame.

  2. Clean the area around the drain plug 3.

  3. Put an oil drain pan below the engine crankcase.

  1. Using a 6 mm Hex driver, remove the drain plug and sealing washer 4. Allow the engine oil to drain completely.

    CAUTION
    Hot oil can cause burns or skin damage.
  2. Replace the sealing washer on the drain plug.

    NOTICE

    The sealing surfaces on the drain plug and crankcase should be clean and free of burrs, nicks, or scratches.

  1. Install the drain plug and torque to specification.

    12 ft-lbs (16 nm)

  1. Locate the oil filter 3 through the access hole in the frame. Put an oil drain pan and shop towels below the oil filter. Use an Oil Filter Wrench (PU-50105) to turn the oil filter counter-clockwise to remove it.

  2. Clean the oil filter sealing surface on the engine crankcase.

  1. Make sure the O-ring on the new oil filter is in good condition. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with a thin layer of engine oil.

  2. Install the new oil filter to specification.

    Turn by hand until filter O-ring contacts sealing surface, then turn an additional 3/4 turn.

  3. Replace the oil filter plate. Torque screws to specification.

    7 ft-lbs (9 nm)

  4. Remove the dipstick. Add the Polaris recommended lubricant as necessary to bring the oil level between the full and add lines on the dipstick. DO NOT overfill.

    Recommended Engine Oil:

    Polaris PS-4 Synthetic 4-Cycle Engine Oil

    Capacity:

    2 qt (1.9 l)

  5. Install the dipstick.

  6. Start the engine. Allow it to idle for one to two minutes.

  7. Stop the engine and check for leaks.

  8. Check the engine oil level. Add engine oil as needed.

  9. Dispose the used oil and filter properly.
