Spark Plug Service

Open the hood.
CAUTIONA hot exhaust system and engine can cause burns. Allow a hot engine to cool or wear protective gloves when removing a spark plug for inspection. -
Unplug the coil connectors 1 from the ignition coils.
CAUTIONDo NOT remove cooling system vent hose when replacing spark plugs. If doing so is unavoidable, be sure to review the Coolant Hoses Inspection section for instructions on relieving cooling system pressure. -
Remove the ignition coil bolts 3.

Remove the ignition coils 2.
CAUTIONWear eye and face protection when using pressurized air. -
Before removing the spark plugs, use compressed air to remove any loose dirt or debris from the spark plug wells.
NOTICEThe spark plugs must still be installed before using compressed air in this area. -
Remove the spark plugs. Tool: 5/8” spark plug socket with extension.

Inspect electrodes for wear and carbon buildup. A good plug will have a sharp outer edge with no rounding or erosion of the electrodes.

Do not attempt to adjust spark plug gap.

Reinstall the spark plugs or install new plugs.

Tighten spark plugs to specification. See the Spark Plug Recommendations section.

Reinstall the ignition coils.

Reinstall the ignition coil bolts. Tighten to specification.
TORQUE7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm) -
Connect the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.
