Fuel Tank Installation

  1. Secure the handlebars in the straight ahead position.

  2. Apply soapy water or rubber lubricant onto the front tank isolators and lower the fuel tank onto the isolators.

  3. While supporting the rear of the fuel tank, route the fuel line inward of the frame tube and connect it to the fuel rail.

    IMPORTANT
    Verify the fuel line is properly seated and locked into place by listening for an audible “click” and watching the locking tab drop automatically when pressing into place. Pull gently on the quick connector once seated to make sure a proper connection has been made. Also, verify the fuel line is properly connected by gently pulling on the connection.
  4. While supporting the fuel tank, connect the fuel pump electrical connector.

  5. Install the rear fuel tank fasteners. Torque fasteners to specification.

    TORQUE

    Rear Fuel Tank Fasteners:

    18 ft-lbs (24 N·m)

  6. Prime the fuel system to ensure proper installation without fuel leaks. See Priming the Fuel System.

  7. Start the motorcycle and inspect and verify no leaks are present.

  8. On models equipped with a digital display, move the antenna console, with antennas attached, back into position on the tank.

  9. Install the rear tank cover. Make sure any wires under the cover are not pinched.

  10. Install the tank console. Torque fasteners to specification.

    TORQUE

    Tank Console Fasteners:

    44 in-lbs (5 N·m)

  11. Connect the fuel tank vent line to chassis vent line. Make sure the connection is fully made and the clamp is properly in place. Secure the vent line into the rear tank cover.

  12. Install the seat. See Seat Removal / Installation (1-Up Models).
