Fuel Tank Removal
Allow engine and exhaust to cool completely before disconnecting fuel line or removing tank. Protect fuel tank finish when removing, storing, and installing tank.
Be prepared to place the fuel tank in a secure location with a drain pan positioned to catch any fuel that may leak or drip from disconnected hoses or fittings.

Remove the seat. See Seat Removal / Installation (1-Up Models).

Depressurize the fuel system.

Remove the two fuel tank console fasteners 1 and console 2.

On motorcycles equipped with a digital display, move the antenna cover console aside. The antennas can remain attached.

Disconnect the fuel tank vent line 3 under the seat.

Remove the rear tank cover 4. Apply a trim tool or use a small screwdriver at the arrow location to pry the cover outwards to release the retainer.

Remove the two rear fuel tank fasteners 5.

Place a clean shop towel under the fuel line fitting at the fuel rail.

Disconnect the fuel line 6 from the fuel rail 7.
There are two ways to disconnect the quick connect:

Option 1: Use a small screwdriver to pry up on the yellow lock tab.

Option 2: Use your fingers to pull rearward on the release tabs at the bottom of the connector and at the same time, slide the lock tab up while pulling the connector gently away from the fuel rail.
CAUTIONDo not use anything other than fingers or the tools specified to remove the quick connection.

Lift the rear of the fuel tank and disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector 8.

Lift the rear of the fuel tank and slide it rearward to release from the front isolators.

Lift the fuel tank off of the motorcycle.
IMPORTANTDuring removal, make sure the fuel line does not get tangled or retained on any components or features that may cause damage. Do not lift the tank away from the motorcycle if fuel line is constrained.
