Air Filter

Inspect and replace the air filter at the intervals specified in the Periodic Maintenance Table on Periodic Maintenance Table.

  1. Remove the seat. See Seat Removal / Installation (1-Up Models).

  2. Remove the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank Removal.

    NOTICE
    Use care to prevent debris from entering the air box when the filter is removed.
  3. Remove and retain the four fasteners 1 that secure the filter cover to the airbox.

  4. Carefully pry the filter cover up and towards the rear of the motorcycle.

  5. Inspect the air filter. Do not attempt to clean the air filter. Replace a soiled or damaged filter with a new filter in the same orientation as the old filter.

    NOTICE
    Make sure the air filter is fully seated into the filter cover tray.
    CAUTION

    A bent, improperly installed filter element, or loose fitting cover may allow debris to enter the engine which may cause premature engine wear.

  6. Install and torque the four fasteners to specification.

    TORQUE
    14 in-lbs (1.6 N·m)
  7. Reinstall the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank Installation.

  8. Reinstall the seat. See Seat Removal / Installation (1-Up Models).
