Track Alignment Inspection / Adjustment

CAUTION
Do this procedure in a well-ventilated area.

Periodically check that the track is centered and running evenly on the slide rails. Misalignment will cause excessive wear to the track and slide rails.

  1. Safely support the rear of the snowmobile with the track off the ground. See Elevating the Snowmobile.

  2. Start the engine and apply a small amount of throttle until the track slowly turns at least five revolutions.

  3. Turn off the engine and let the track come to a stop – do NOT apply the brake.

  4. Inspect track alignment by looking through the track windows to make sure the slide rails 1 are centered between the track windows.

    • If the track runs to the left: Loosen both idler shaft bolts 2 and the left jam nut 3, and then tighten the left track adjuster bolt 4.

    • If the track runs to the right: Loosen both idler shaft bolts 2 and the right jam nut 5, and then tighten the right track adjuster bolt 6.

  5. After adjustments are complete, make sure track tension is set to specification. See Track Tension Inspection.

  6. Tighten the jam nuts.

  7. Torque the idler shaft bolts to specification.
